Top 10 Gadgets Of 2016
Over the past 52 weeks, a lot of gadgets great and small have crossed my desk here at Gizmodo. Here are 10 of my favourites — pieces of technology, hardware and software, that have changed my life for the better.
While it has been a busy year, and as 2016 readies itself to be written into annals of history, tech-geek Himanshu Juneja takes a look at top gadgets that struck gold on the big stage.
1) Razer Blade Stealth
Price: Starts at $1,19995
Razer has been trying to build the ultimate gaming Ultrabook for the last few years, but 2016 might be the year it’s actually succeeded. The Blade Stealth is everything you’d expect to see in a new ultrabook-type machine from Apple or Dell—it’s slim, fast, and fairly inexpensive. The kicker though is that the Blade Stealth also comes with an integrated graphics card that can supplemented by an exterior graphics card called Razer Core, which will deliver those desktop-level graphics that it was never able to power by a laptop before.

2) HTC VIVE
Price: Starts at $ 799.99
We really like the kind of VR that the Oculus Rift has on tap right now, but we love the HTC Vive's grander immersion. It's built around the premise of room-scale VR, which means many games have you move around your room and interact all around you. The experience is unlike anything you've ever played before.
For now, we're waiting on more full-fledged games to come out for Vive, as the Rift currently has the edge in that department (along with more polish overall). Still, wearing HTC's headset feels like living in the future, and it offers the boldest vision for the next generation of home entertainment.

3) SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 EDGE
Price: Starts at Rs. 49,000
If we're being practical, the standard Galaxy S7 is the smarter pick of Samsung's latest flagship duo, offering incredible performance and perks at the lower price point. However, if we're giving into our deepest urges, we can't help but choose the beautiful curves and unrivalled look of the Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Galaxy S7 Edge looks much the same as last year's phone, but the enhancements aren't tiny: along with a performance boost, the phone itself is just a hair larger, plus it adds microSD support and waterproofing. Beyond that, it's every bit the stunner we saw with the Galaxy S6 Edge, making it one of the best phones on the planet right now.

4) ONEPLUS 3
Price: Starts at Rs. 27,999
Remember what we just said about being practical? Yeah, that's why the OnePlus 3 now rules our list of today's best smartphones, supplanting the Galaxy S7 line. Why? Well, it's a refined flagship-level Android phone that can stack up to any competition… at about half the price.
We don't know how they do it. Rather, we don't know how everyone else plans to keep getting away with higher prices after seeing this beauty, with its Snapdragon 820 processor and 6GB RAM, a very good 1080p display, and all the other bells and whistles you expect. At £309, it's an unbelievable deal.

5) PlayStation 4 VR
Price: Starts at Rs 38,990
Sony’s PlayStation 4-tethered headset hits closest to what feels like early VR’s sweet spot: affordability without meaningful compromise, ergonomic maturity, and in a few instances riveting platform-exclusives. And at $399, it’s yours for hundreds of dollars less than its fellow high-enders. It’s the lithely machined and beveled progeny of a multi-billion-dollar global firm’s decades of consumer electronics know-how. It’s design like this that explains why Steve Jobs said he wanted to turn Apple into the “Sony of the computer business” when he returned to the company he founded in 1998.

6) Apple Iphone 7 plus
Price: Starts at 72,000
The iPhone 7 Plus didn’t “wow” the world in the same way so many other Apple products have done in the past. But with its latest smartphone, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company delivered one of the best mobile camera systems around. The larger iPhone includes two lenses, one standard wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens that can offer an optical zoom up to 2x. A portrait mode, meanwhile, produces professional-looking headshots.

7) Google Pixel
Price: Starts at Rs. 44,200
Samsung has long been the dominant player in Android smartphones, but the first true Google-made handset proves there’s plenty of room for competition. With its attractive looks, easy-to-use software, and great camera, the Pixel gives iPhone owners a compelling reason to switch. Plus, its AI-powered Google Assistant is helpful for answering questions and managing schedules. Google’s Pixel is the Android phone to beat, especially given Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 recall.

8) Raspberry Pi
Price: Starts at Rs.4,998
a credit-card sized computer which can connect to an HD display and as many peripherals as a full-fledged desktop. The Raspberry Pi with its Lilliputian design has been available since 2012 and its use has spread like wildfire, especially in engineering and professional colleges in India where students have embraced it as a platform to create a host of Internet of Things applications. This minion packs 2 GB of storage, USB, WiFi, Micro SD extensions and a HDMI port. Today you can buy it online for about Rs 3,000.
If any single device unleashed the creativity of young Indians this year it is the Raspberry Pi. In Kerala, they started even younger: the state distributed 7,500 Pi kits to school children to encourage programming skills. In the strict sense, the Raspberry Pi is not a gadget, but thousands of young Indians are turning it into many cool gadgets, which is why it makes it to our list.

9) Apple Watch Series 2
Price: Starts at Rs. 32,900
The Apple Watch is an overpriced contrivance, sure. You're paying at least $400 for a gadget that relays notifications from your phone. But the Series 2 is the first Apple Watch that can track your activity while you're swimming, and that was a big part of what got me to join the gym and start swimming again — and I've shaved 10kg from my waistline in the last six months. I probably put half of that back on over Christmas, but whatever. I hold the Apple Watch partially responsible for me getting fit(ter).

For those looking to invest in a 13-inch laptop, this should end most people's search. The smallest 13-inch display ultrabook has got most of the things right, starting with the brilliant Infinity Edge display itself. There is no dearth of power thanks to the Kaby Lake processor.A solid GPU, generous RAM dose, and an all day power back up of 18+ hours should be adequate for most user's requirements. The XPS 13 should hold up for some years to come.
